Likely originating from a high-end workshop in Scotland or Northern England, this chest is built with "Scotch proportions," making it taller and deeper than standard English designs. While mahogany was common for the era, the use of imported American Walnut makes this a premium piece, featuring a warm reddish-brown tone and a beautiful flame in the grain.
The design offers significant storage with four deep, graduating drawers and a hidden top drawer built into the upper moulding. It is finished with hand-carved leaf details on the side pillars and stands on its original, sturdy bun feet.
This chest provides plenty of storage for clothing in a bedroom. Alternatively, it would work well in a large hallway or on a landing for storing linens and household items.
