A beautiful, oversized, fruitwood lounge chair and footstool from 19th Century Southern France.

The ladderback arm chair with wide, sloped arms, turned legs and supporting lower stretchers, finished with a good quality, gathered rush seat.

The ottoman or footstool following the same design to create a matching set.

The pair can be pushed together to create a day bed or lounger.

Dimensions:
Chair - Width 89 cm x Depth 68 cm x Height 93 cm (seat height 39 cm)
Ottoman - Width 104 cm x Depth 75 cm x Height 39 cm.

Materials:
Fruitwood frame with woven, rush seat.

Fruitwood was extensively used in provincial furniture designs in the 18th & 19th centuries, primarily in France and England.

Era:
Mid 19th century, circa 1850.

Condition:
In good antique condition with wear and tear appropriate for age and use, Historic woodworm throughout which is no longer active and does not affect the integrity of the piece. Sympathetically restored keeping with the design.

Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive sponges.

Avoid dragging when moving - instead lift and place.

The rush is in good condition, however should it need repairing in the future then hire a professional who specialises in rush weaving.
